Mullioned window (Ajimez)
This architectural element was declarated a Good of Cultural Interest in 1985. It´s a clear example of moorish architectural boom which took place in the province from the second half XIV century until XVI and its subsequent revival in the XIX century.
It´s a divided window by a mullion on which two basket-handle arches are seated and framed by tiles. It was integrated into the facade of the known house as "Casa Grande" (Big House), at Oria Castañeda street, belonging to a top council position or a wealthy merchant of the town, because of its large surface and its proximity to the emblematic buildings. The Ajimez was the only element which survived from the old house.
In the late XIX century it was become a tenement until that, lost this use, it was acquired by the town hall and demolished to build the "Casa de la Cultura" (Municipal arts centre). The Ajimez was installed on the library´s front, where it can be seen completely rebuilted.
