Lepe is a town with an ancient history, as evidenced by the testimonies which are reflected in its archaeological, paleontologist, artistic, documentary or monumental heritage and its gallery of famous descendants.

Lepe had got a rich architectural heritage in the past, but the Lisboa´s earthquake and the tsunami that preceded it (1 st November, 1755), destroyed most. The village was in ruin, the castle, the chapter, the chapels, as well as the church belfry and the tenements were damaged. Buildings were rebuilt according to the architectural styles from XVIII and XIX centuries, where coexist Moorish and Baroque forms that herald the Neoclassicism.
